Plugging in!
at
1:45 AM
World,
While I see you've been flying on like a freight train without me lately, I'm back on board. After another of countless hiatuses, I am plugging back in... for good! My reasons for tuning out were legitimate, but I am feeling creative, productive, and motivated of late, and I'm ready to be back on track. As proof of my commitment, you can now follow me on various social networking platforms including Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest (/ThePenumbrous)!
On my website, find the product of my motivation this past month in a new piece titled "Extricate or Atrophy" (catch a little detail shot below). This I feel is a milestone piece for me and will set the tone aesthetically for the direction I'm headed in the near future. I am also, bit by bit, updating my site, starting with a sort of re-design, which has already occurred. If any of this strikes your interest, follow along with me, and please, tell your friends! I've already got new pieces taped down and in the works! Stay tuned, the best is yet to come!
Thanks for the support,
Best,
J

Commencement Exhibition!
at
12:48 PM
I'm a little behind here, thanks to all the year-end fuss, but let's start back up with this:
Some photos of my senior thesis work at the Commencement Exhibition! There was a big pedestal with my sketchbook and scroll too, but I guess I didn't get a picture of that. Oops.
Also, better images of all of these are now on my website, just click on that black feather in the upper left.

Update

I've updated the "Progressions" page with the latest stages of the Allegory of Home #2 drawing. Check them out by clicking the tab above.
The cityscape is starting to develop. I'm not sure how I feel about it and its effect on the work both conceptually and formally/compositionally. I'll keep working though, and see where it leads.
Also, soon to come: Sketches for my projects on deck.

New Drawing
at
2:13 AM
The paintings were getting to feel laborious, and I wasn't enjoying working on them, so I started reinterpreting my topic in large scale drawings. The idea was to make the compositions more dynamic, and break the "fourth wall" more effectively. This is the same subject, but less frontal, and the hierarchy of scale is less irresolute, meaning that the important objects in the image are actually treated as though they are important.
They are still in progress. More images to come.

New developments
at
7:27 PM
The results of some more studio time today:
It still looks too effeminate, which is something I'll be working on changing. I also still need to resolve the bottom/lower right, and activate that expanse on the left, but I have tentative plans for all of that.
yet the Fates said No.
